Local meat reaches Hiiumaa schools dineries
In Hiiumaa just started the so-called „meat circle”: local organic beef is brought to all school canteens from the local abattoir, that was built last year with the support of LEADER program.
Manager of the Kärdla Gymnasium’s canteen, Elena Linkov told that they have earlier purchased beef from a local farmer Tiiu Alas. Beef carcass was brought to the school kitchen where cooks deboned the meat. As in island's other schools meat was not processed, they could not use a local beef in the school menue.
In December, the local abattoir strated to deliver packed local organic meat to all school cantines. In addition to Kärdla school, quality meat can be cooked in Lauka chool kitchen. Palade, Suuremõisa Emmaste school cooks will test local organic meat in January.
